Camp Perry Interview with Paul Feeney

How did you know about Perry?
Have heard about it for years through the shooting fraternity.

Why go to Perry?
All shooters should try to get there at least once in a lifetime. It is almost a religious requirement like the ragheads doing their haj to Mecca.

What did you think about Perry?
This is a difficult question to answer in a short sentence. General impression was ‘impressive’. The system is good over there but not to be followed slavishly here.

Do you think you were made welcome?  Why?
Very much so. People seemed to be genuinely impressed that we would spend the time and money traveling to attend their shoot.

What rifle/rifles did you shoot at Perry?
AR 15.

What matches did you shoot at Perry?
All except the wet weather days.

Favourite match?
Rattle battle.

While at Perry, what did you think about the people there (shooters, visitors, staff, services)?
Excellent. On the line, in the butts or in the office all were friendly and helpful.

What was the best thing about Perry?
Shooting the AR.

What about Perry didn’t you like?
Lack of descent food on the range.

What surprised you the most?
The large number of volunteer staff that attend each year.

What disappointed you the most?
My poor performance.

Thoughts on CMP?
Excellent. What a wonderful programme.

Thoughts on NRA?
Disappointing. Thought the 100 anniversary would have attracted more shooters.

What home comfort did you miss the most?
An electric jug.

Would you encourage others to go to Perry, and why?
Yes. See above for the pilgrimage thing.

Advise to those going next time?
More advice on the nitty gritty things eg wet weather gear for trolly,-  detailed advice on the layout of the place,- advice on the sequence of doing things eg registration, sign on etc.

Will you be back to Perry?
Hopefully, yes.

Those you would like to thank?
Clint and Glen for their help and hospitality in Texas,  DW for the time and effort put into the organisation esp getting the team gear made up and distributed. Matt and Chris for putting up with a silly old fart.  Special thanks to Bob for collecting and storing our equipment.

Describe your daily shooting experiences:
All were good even if the results were disappointing.

            - NRA Day 2

            - NRA Day 3

            - NRA Day 4

How was your overall performance?

What did you learn?
Heaps. Not only from a personal shooting perspective but also from an organisational point of view.
